According to Eurostat, women make up less than a quarter of Estonia’s tech industry’s workforce. Early gender-based differentiation can be observed in the participation in extracurricular activities developing STEAM skills at age 7–14 yrs, with the participation rate of one or two girls for every ten boys. HK Unicorn Squad is a moment that offers technological education only to girls. The goal is cultivating the girls’  interest in technology, robotics, and natural sciences.

With support from the Good Deed Education Fund, the HK Unicorn Squad programme expanded across Estonia. More than 3,000 girls have already participated in the Unicorn Squad activities, and the programme has begun to be linked with formal education. In the spring of 2024, the programme aimed at high school girls will start.
