WHY?
The Internship Programme for School Leaders is a unique development programme for experienced education leaders. Its aim is to strengthen leadership competencies, bring school owners and education leaders closer together, support the development of future education leaders, and foster collaboration between leaders from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Cross-sector collaboration helps bring best management practices into schools, while also creating significant value through cross-organisational learning experiences.
HOW?
One cycle of the internship programme lasts approximately nine months. It begins with mapping the leadership profile of each education leader, based on which mentor pairs are formed. Education leaders then spend ten weeks in companies with strong leadership cultures, gaining hands-on management experience.
After the internship period, participants apply the acquired knowledge in their own schools. The collaboration continues for the following six months with support from a company mentor and a coach from Fontes.
Led by the Good Deed Education Fund, the programme has expanded from Tallinn to across Estonia. In addition to school leaders from the City of Tallinn, participants have included representatives from the Ministry of Education and Research (state schools), the City of Tartu, Viimsi Municipality, Lääne-Harju and Saku Municipalities, and the City of Rakvere. In the current cohort, Kohila, Rae, and Järva Municipalities have also joined.
Internship placements have been provided by 16 forward-looking organisations: Bolt, Coop Pank, Ericsson Estonia, Fortumo, Glia, LHV, Pipedrive, RMK, Swedbank, SEB, SOL Baltics, Tallink Grupp, Telia, the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund, Veriff, and Wise. This season, Proekspert, Apollo Group, Stockmann, and Onninen have also joined.
As facilitators of the internship programme, we have contributed to the management of the programme and communication and financially supported the development support of the mentors and school administrators of the companies participating in the programme. We want the programme to grow independently and contribute to the development of Estonian school leaders in the long term.
